My trip to the 1997 50th Anniversary Saab Jubillee in Waterville Valley New Hampshire
I drove to the Jubilee in Waterville Valley NH Saturday. I had a wonderful time driving through the winding roads of western Maine and central New Hampshire. Lots of hills and turns and beautiful woods. Very little speed-limit enforcement on the back roads too, though I am a pretty reasonable driver.

I drove 4 hours to get there and used less than a half tank of gas in my '88 900T. Took my good friend Jacob Post along too. He has owned quite a few Saabs and is more of a Saab nut than I.

The saab-usa homepage has an arial shot of the saabs there, but that's only about 20% of them. They didn't get all the parking lots which were filled with all varieties Saab. Parking lots outnumbered the green field about 5 to 1.

Lots of neat enhancements in the cars on the field. The cloth panels on my doors are starting to look pretty bad, and I was thinking about making some wood ones. I saw a convertable where that was done! I took a picture and I'm glad to see how nice that looks. Got to see a V8 powered saab 900 body also. Not something I'd want to do, but very interesting to see. Lots of interesting things to see and very much worth the trip.

The cup holders in the 95 are really something. It's a little L shaped thing with a vertical rectangular face which pops straignt out of the dash. Then a circle inside the L slowly rotates 90 degrees and locks to make a very functional and stylish cup holder. Push it back, and the circle rotates 90 degrees to fit back in the slot in the dash. Neat.

Bought too much stuff there. Mug, mousepad, shirt, tie, "Saab Parking Only - All others will be towed" municipal sign, inside door handles, a Saab electric radiator fan for my Jaguar, and another shirt.

I took some pictures, which are presented here. Each inline image in the pages has two links below it. The 640 link goes to a picture 640 pixels wide (typically full screen on a 14 or 15 inch display on home computers). The 1024 link goes to a picture 1024 pixels wide (typical of 17 or 20 inch monitors used in graphics and engineering workstations. The more pixels, the more image detail and size.

640 1024 Here is a 900 convertable which I photographed because of the wood on the door panel. The "cloth" part of my door is looking pretty poor, and I though some wood might look nice. It was a figment of my imagination till I saw how good it can look with my own eyes on another smart Saab owner's car.

640 1024 Mine is the white 900T in the smack middle of the photo. It is facing away from the camera if too many white 900's confuse you :-)

640 This is driving around on the roads near Waterville Valley NH. I have tons of dead bugs on my windshield which were quite apparent on the window. A silver colored 9000 is just ahead of us. My white 900T has a JVC CD receiver and changer which "talks" to me. It's nice, and it's powerful. I also have new front speakers (Pioneer), new rears (JBL 6x9's in their own boxes), a Kenwood 150 watt amp for the subwoofer, Infinity 12" subwoofer in a "Thunderbox".

640 1024 Thats a real nice shine on a beautiful 900. Real cotton-candy like cloud reflections from the hood and windows.

640 1024 Take a picture; it will last longer. I bought too much. Here is Jacob with a Saab hat. It screams "yuppie" real loud. He didn't buy it, as he'd look too much like his older brother with it on.

640 1024 Here is one excessive (almost) audio system. Mine is puny in comparison. I'd estimate that there were a dozen speakers inside. Looks like all the mounting hardware was custom built for his 900T.

640 1024 Here are two photos of the upcoming Saab 95. Its pretty nice inside, but probably beyond my budget. I think they are not as unique looking as the pre-94 900's either. Uniqueness or individually are important ownership/owner qualities.

640 1024 I really enjoyed staring at this beast. A 600-and-something horsepower V8 powered 900. Word has it that this belongs to Mike Connelley at ConnTech Saab Repair. [63 Kent Avenue, Warwick, RI 02886, at Appnonaug Circle; 401-738-3665].

640 1024 Same car, different view. Tires are such a close fit, I'm not sure how it would be driven. There's not even enough room to let the smoke out as far as I could see, but it was not demonstrated to me unfortunately.

640 1024 This is under the hood "bonnet" of someone's 900T. It was excentricly clean, had a Saab decal on the engine, some Group-6 improvements, and other neat stuff.

640 1024 A colorful row of Lifesaver flavored Sonetts.

640 1024 Some curvy Sonetts with a nice colored paint job. I like the placement of the mirrors too - sort of like a Jaguar E-type.

640 1024 A 96 (?) with ground effects?

640 1024 A general picture of the crowd on the field mingling around a long row of colorful Sonetts.

640 1024 Fun little racing type vehicle. Some were parked on the field, but Saturday afternoon, they were driven around a little. Very loud for their size.
