Our adventures around town involved walking about 150 blocks, and seeing lots of interesting things and lots of interesting people. Where I'm from the closest record store is at the state's capitol city which is an hour's drive. There are lots of them in NYC, some are 3 or 4 floors of glitz. A good selection of Mariah merchandise as well. One person amongst us bought some really cool records, even though he didn't have a record player. I had enough Mariah stuff for now, but I found a good Bjork CD and a good Jewel CD. When I was in Rochester, I bought the other Mariah album, (there are two albums; same content, different photography layout)
Each inline image in the pages has two links below it. The 640 link goes to a picture 640 pixels wide (typically full screen on a 14 or 15 inch display on home computers). The 1024 link goes to a picture 1024 pixels wide (typical of 17 or 20 inch monitors used in graphics and engineering workstations. The more pixels, the more image detail and size.

This is one of a couple of group photos in front of the church that Mariah
Carey and Tommy were married in. Sorry for the harsh lighting. A
flash would have taken care of this, but I was traveling light. I am the
one in the green shirt on the right.

Another of the same scene. A list of names would be nice. (I'd not be able
to make an accurate list myself)

This is inside of the Sony building. A very large open space for Sony to
present an incredible image to visitors and the public.
640 1024
This is a wide angle shot inside the Sony place. There is a full size
aircraft suspended in there, as well as other amusements. Wasn't too much
for Mariah fans, but still a neat place.

This is from the business lobby of the same Sony building. We were not
able to be given a tour, but were able to get directions to the recording
studio. There's a yellow cab in the photo. Every other car in town is a
cab. Most everything else is either a Lincoln Limo, or a Mercedes.

This is outside the recording studio. We were a little imposing when we
all ran in there and asked for a tour. The front desk person said her
manager would have to decide that and they weren't in today. We stepped
otuside, while one person went in and talked a bit more.
640 1024
More of us standing outside making fun of the front desk person's poor
excuse.

Here we are resting our feet and enjoying lunch in Central Park. We picked
up some nice sandwiches from a corner store near Sony's recording studio,
and lugged them to Central Park.

Same place. Here we are planning our afternoon stops. Or trying to. One
fan had sense enough to bring a map of the city. Probably the same person
that bought records :-)
Here I changed film and are that roll should be on photoCD at the end of the week. Will keep you posted.

Here we approach tower records.

After walking about 60 or so blocks, everyone stopped at my hotel room to
rest their feet and relax for a short time. This is a pretty nice place, I
couldn't afford more than one night here. (The Millenium, a place on 44th
st right near broadway.

Making a couple of phone calls for evening and next week's plans.
640 1024
The beds were very comfortable, and the view was pretty nice from the 43rd
floor. We got about 150 channels, and had a coffee-maker in the bathroom,
full size bath, leather chairs, etc...
640 1024
Wandering around the city more. This was tiring but pretty interesting.
640 1024
Crowds and advertising. There's enough spent on advertising in NYC to feed
a third world country.
640 1024
And more advertising. Every other car was a crown vic taxi. The other half
of the cars were buses, Mercedes, and Lincoln Limosines.
640 1024
We wait for a safe moment to cross the street.
640 1024
Here, we were shown the door at the Viacom building on Broadway.
640 1024
This is right beside our table at Planet Hollywood. It's an alien from the
films Alien and Aliens. Awesome movies. The atmosphere and service was
good at Planet Hollywood, but the food was only OK. We waited about an
hour to get in, but it was worth it.
640 1024
This was what made it worth it. This is the blue battle axe from Last of
the Mohicans. LOTM is one of my all time favorite movies, and this axe, I
call the blue lart. (lart == luser attitude re-adjustment tool, a system
administrator's acronym)
